About Ann

Ann Roberts | LCSW, LICSW

I entered the field of social work 35 years ago as a child abuse investigator in rural and urban areas. Seeing children affected by difficult circumstances inspired curiosity and the desire to make contact with people affected by social and societal predicaments.

Upon moving to New York City in 1987, I helped established a therapeutic community for homeless adolescents amidst the crack epidemic. In addition, I worked as a medical social worker during the AIDS crisis. Through these experiences, I developed a profound appreciation for the role of culture, environmental pressures, and external forces and the way they conspire to shape human experience.

Psychoanalytic training, which I completed at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP) in 1997, furthered my professional growth, and added depth to my understanding of human motivations. My full-time private practice was established soon after. And upon teaching my first class of psychoanalytic candidates in 1999, I discovered an interest in the development of clinicians, and have been supervising therapists ever since.

At ICP, I have held the position of Director of Curriculum and been a member of their training committee. My expertise in trauma and dissociation has been enhanced through leading a clinical intervention group for Rape Crisis clinicians.

I love being a clinician and consider it a privilege to be invited into the world of each unique patient I meet. During consultation, my primary goal is to focus on what you want from a treatment and what you want for yourself. This will be structured in a way that feels internally syntomic with what you know about yourself. I look forward to meeting you.
